Bailey 10g Calibrated Monofilament(CH533)
The Baileys Monofilament is an instrument used for testing peripheral neuropathy. It does this by applying a specific force to a point on the skin to assess the sensitivity of the skin at that point. The force applied is determined by the buckling load of the monofilament, which is transferred to the point of contact.
The monofilaments are primarily used for testing the feet of diabetic patients for loss of protective sensation associated with peripheral neuropathy. If a patient cannot feel 10g, they should be considered at risk for developing pressure or neuropathic ulcers and should be referred to a specialist for further assessment.
